Prashar Lake Trek

Prashar Lake Trek

If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to go trekking, then Prashar Lake Trek is the place to go. This amazing lake is surrounded by lush greenery and majestic mountains, and it offers a rich cultural experience as well.

The Prashar Lake Trek has gained fame in recent years as being one of the most beautiful treks in Nepal. Situated in Langtang National Park, there are three days of trekking that lead you to this beautiful body of water, which sits at an altitude of 13,000 feet (3846 meters). Although the trail is rough and demanding at times, it’s worth every step along the way! This guide will help you enjoy the Prashar Lake trek to its fullest – so read on!

When to Visit

The best time to visit Prashar Lake is during the monsoon season, from June to October. However, if you are going in autumn or winter, be sure to pack your waterproof gear and warm clothes because it can get quite cold.

Getting There

Driving – Directions: On the outskirts of Kathmandu, head south on Ring Road for about 30 minutes. Park before reaching Kalika Village, then walk 500m. It will take about 3 hours from Kathmandu.

There are also daily buses that leave from Kathmandu’s Ratna Park bus station at 5am and arrive around 7pm. If you get there early in the day it is possible to catch a return bus back to Kathmandu on any one of the many buses that pass by Prashar throughout the day. If you are unable to do this you can stay overnight at a lodge near Prashar, or pay a taxi fare back into town when your bus leaves in the morning.

What to Bring

Being prepared is always key, but it’s even more important when you’re hiking. You want to bring a couple things that will make your day enjoyable and stress-free.

1. Water – Hydration is imperative while hiking, so don’t forget your water bottle!

2. Snacks and Lunch – You should plan on packing a lunch and snacks for the day if you want to eat well without breaking your budget.

3. Sun Protection – The sun can be brutal in Nepal, so don’t forget sunscreen or bring a hat for protection!

4. Camera Equipment – Capture all those beautiful sights with your camera equipment!

The Trek

The Prashar Lake trek is one of the most iconic treks in Nepal and one that I would recommend everyone take at least once. There are many reasons why it has garnered such a reputation and a few things you should be aware of before embarking on your journey, but first let me start by telling you about my experience.

I’d been wanting to do the trek for years and finally decided it was time when I found out a friend was going to be doing it too. It’s not something you can do alone, after all! We made our plans, got all our equipment together, booked our flights, and finally took off for Kathmandu.

Accommodation

There are a number of hotels and resorts that offer packages for those looking for a more luxurious experience. For those with time limitations, there are also small guesthouses or lodges that provide basic accommodation as well. Located in North Sikkim close to Pakyong Airport, Prashar Lodge is one such option with rates starting at INR 3,000 per night per person.

The standard package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as a guide who can take you on hikes through the Himalayas or help you spot wildlife if you’re lucky. One thing to note about Prasha Lodge is that it doesn’t offer Wi-Fi or TV so if these features are important to you then it’s worth checking out their website before booking your stay.

Things to Do

The Prashar Lake Trek is a beautiful haven, with the serene lakes and stunning Himalayan views. This hike is one of the most popular routes in all of Nepal. With such a high demand, it’s important that you are prepared for all eventualities when you take on this trek.

The first thing you need to do is make sure you have at least three days worth of food and water. You’ll be hiking for about nine hours at a time, so there will be no opportunity to buy refreshments on your way up or down. And, with such a high demand for these trails, it’s important that everyone keeps their trash off the trails so they stay as pristine as possible for future generations.

Conclusion

To enjoy the Prashar Lake Trek as much as possible, it’s important to make sure you plan ahead and get all of your pre-trek preparations done with enough time to spare. Once you’re actually on the trek itself, you’ll want to make sure you don’t overdo it on the first day, that you eat the right foods, and that you take precautions against insects, rain and accidents.
